Summery of Teaching Experience and Career Objectives

For as long as I can remember, I have been in the company of educators and involved in learning environments. When I was young, I helped my mother in her elementary classrooms and later I volunteered at the Abilities Council, assisting adults with mental and physical disabilities. My journey as an international educator began when was 18 years old and accepted a position to care for and tutor a girl in Germany. While I was in Germany, I discovered my interest in languages, travel and teaching. I returned to Canada to complete my Bachelor degree in English Literature and began a career in the Alberta Film and Television Industry. During this time, I continued to volunteer at elementary schools, instructed a poetry program for adults with schizophrenia and taught two semesters at the ESL Learning Institute in Doha, Qatar. In 2005, I decided to pursue a career in teaching English language learners, so I completed my TESOL certification and applied for a position in Taiwan.

My contract at American English School required me to instruct five levels of children’s classes ranging from a full-immersion American grade one curriculum, to an advanced communicative speaking and grammar class for young adults. During this time, I also taught private students, usually adults interested in improving their English for the purpose of travel or employment. I also developed and instructed summer session classes for the Education Department at the National University of Pingtung.

In August 2008, I moved back to Canada to work on my Masters in Integrated Studies - with a specialization in Adult Education and Global Change, this interdisciplinary program not only allows me to continue my professional development as an educator, but it cultivates an understanding of an increasingly globally interdependent world. In the fall, I was offered an instructor position at North West Regional College and taught multi-level ESL classes to new Canadians. In addition to administrative duties and participation in professional development workshops and faculty meetings, I was expected to demonstrate current instructional content knowledge and eliminate student barriers to learning. In my role at North West Regional College I was encouraged to facilitate experiential learning, enable individual growth and adhere to methods of authentic assessment that best measure student performance in the specified course outcomes.

In my former ESL/EFL teaching positions, I developed effective classroom management tools, concise lesson planning skills, and purposeful instructional strategies. Through appropriate use of technology, I utilized various teaching strategies to meet the individual needs of the students. I maintained a strong professional rapport with colleagues and students, by promoting fairness, listening, and empathy in the school. I sustained a positive classroom-learning environment that embraced diversity and celebrated creativity from a biasfree perspective.

My husband and I have taken the year ‘off’ to travel in Asia but we are looking for a place to settle down and call home - at least for a few years. I believe my experience, combined with a strong work ethic, interpersonal skills, motivation to evolve as an educator and desire to serve as a resource to English language learners make me a good candidate for any ESL/EFL instructor/tutor position. I am confident my professional experience has prepared me to develop meaningful course content and deliver effective lessons. I have excellent oral and written communication skills and I am comfortable using standard computer programs and applications. I will ensure that all students have the opportunity to learn by planning appropriate and constructive lessons in a supportive and enjoyable learning environment.

The Dhaka Project

The Dhaka Project works to provide much needed support to poor families and their children in Dhaka. The objective is to bring new sources of income to some of Bangladesh’s poorest people. The emphasis is placed on supporting sustainable development and to support local economy and longevity of the work. I volunteered teaching adults and children English.

At present course graduates are teaching English in over 30 countries around the world. The majority of our graduates successfully find ESL/EFL teaching positions worldwide.

Danya Gabruch completed the Global TESOL Foundation course in 2005. Danya acquired new knowledge and concepts with ease, and presented herself in a professional manner during the practical training and presentations. Throughout the course she showed a great deal of passion and motivation for this line of work and was able to share that enthusiasm with others, using it to her advantage while participating in group work. Danya's strong communication skills combined with her creativity and ability to adapt quickly and easily to new situations, are qualities that will make her an excellent ESL/EFL teacher.

I am confident in adding that Danya will be a valuable asset to any ESL institute, and those who will have the pleasure of working with her will be impressed with her ability to handle any given situation with confidence and interest for others. 美利肯美語短期補習班

To whom it may concern,

Ms. Danya Gabruch has been employed at my private language school as a teacher since August 2005. I have been consistently impressed with her attitude and performance on the job. Her interpersonal skills have allowed her to teach English as a second language in an affective and creative fashion.

Danya posses disciplined work habits, which enable her to be well prepared for all her classes, ensuring the students the opportunity to learn using purposeful assignments. She has been able to supplement the curriculum by researching various resources independently, while dealing with children; she has proven that she can make instantaneous decisions that provide fair and desirable outcomes.

Danya has embraced the Taiwanese culture thus enabling her to develop a strong rapport not only with her students, but with their parents as well. She clearly communicates problems and accepts constructive criticism allowing her to develop positive teaching skills. As a result of the above, she has sustained a positive classroom-learning environment. Her strong work performance and wiliness to participate in the school extracurricular activities have made her an exemplary employee.

I recommend Danya without reservation. If you have any further questions regarding her duties or performances, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Sincerely,

Paul Savage

ELS Language Centers

This letter is to document that Danya Gabruch worked for ELS Language Centers, Doha Qatar. Danya has proven in the short time that I have known her to be a quick study, hard worker and diligent in her efforts to teach the English language in a multi-cultural context.

Hired to teach primarily in the children’s program, she demonstrated that she was able to teach 6-11 year olds the basics of English. Working 6 hours a day, 5 days a week under split-shift conditions, is arduous at least. Never complaining and constantly putting forth efforts to keep the kids happy, I received numerous calls from parents delineating favourable responses to Danya and the progress of their children’s English language skills. Keeping in mind that Danya had never taught before, let alone an English class, says much about her ability to learn new skills under short-term training and make pragmatic those skills in a specific context.

As if this were not enough, due to our record enrollment, we were short of adult teachers and the Academic Director asked Danya would she be willing to once again – quick study – and teach adults. Ever one for growing and learning, she agreed and once again proved successful in teaching 3 intermediate level English classes – to include Communicative Grammar, Reading & Writing, Structured Speaking.

I am pleased that Danya was able to come here and work for us – and to do so successfully. Students are already asking me if they can have her next semester and my only regret is that I have to tell them she is going back to Canada. Danya will be missed.

In Peace.
